Major Scientific Works of Dr. Samir

Concept of Death & Adjustment (With P. Gilbert): In this work it has been analyzed and postulated that personal adjustment with death might depend on the concept of death that the specific person has.

Death and Adjustment Hypotheses: This is the most extensive work by the researcher so far. In it he tried to define death phenomenologically and postulated in two parts how a desirable perception of death can be accommodated at personal and societal level. A recent robust empirical study is being conducted on this theory starting from July 2010.

DRS Scale: DRS stands for Death Rejection Score. This is a scale that the researcher developed for his first empirical study on death. It was used to measure the rejection that one might have in oneself for death.

NSS Scale: NSS stands for Neurotic Symptom Score. This is a scale that the researcher developed for his first empirical study on death. It was used to measure the neurotic symptoms that one might have in oneself in relation to death.

Religiosity and Death Anxiety: In his first empirical study the researcher showed the correlation of death anxiety & adjustment with religiosity among Muslims.

Death Adjustment Disorder: After postulating Death and Adjustment Hypotheses, the researcher proposed that there should be a definite diagnosis of unacceptable pattern of death adjustment and hence proposed the disease.

A welcome comment from the Editor-in-Chief of the leading scientific journal on death attitude, 'Death Studies', on M S Hossain's work

"I am pleased to inform that in my role as a Professor of Psychology at the University of Memphis, I have recommended the recent book by Dr. Mohammad Samir Hossain,......................, entitled Quest for a New Death: Death and Adjustment Hypotheses, for adoption by our university library. As a long-time researcher in the field of death attitudes and as editor of the leading international journal in the area, Death Studies, I am keenly aware that nearly all of the 2,000 or more scientific studies in the field are conducted in the West, and as such are constrained, often invisibly, by the Christian or Jewish cultural frame shared by the populations studied.  It is a welcome development to add an Islamic voice to the disciplinary discourse, especially one that is informed by empirical research that is beginning to find its way into the peer reviewed literature.  As you likely are aware, Professor Hossain’s is at once passionate and reflective, and is one that underscores our common humanity.  As such, I trust that it will form the foundation for further studies in this area, and.............................that holds promise of offering insights into death related concerns of relevance to a broad spectrum of patients and the general public. ......................................................................................................
